r. Neil de Grasse Tyson, Director of the Hayden Planetarium, talked with John Noble Wilford, a space writer for The New York Times, about the state of our knowledge about the universe.

When the subject turned to the most important discoveries of the 20th century, Dr. Tyson named the expanding universe as one. Queried about life in the universe, he said our thinking had been too narrow about the types of bodies that support life. He continued by saying recent discoveries of organisms living in the extremest places on earth proved life was more hardy than we imagined.
