An informant’s tip helped police crack a burglary ring responsible for a series of crimes that began last summer in Beaver and Lawrence counties, including break-ins at three local golf courses.

The suspects donned black masks and struck at night, disabling electric meters in an attempt to neutralize burglar alarm systems.

Police said they are responsible for at least seven burglaries — including Blackhawk, Fox Run and Stonecrest golf courses — that netted more than $10,000 in cash. They also caused considerable damage at the businesses they targeted, including $3,285 at Stonecrest on Route 18 in New Beaver Township, Lawrence County.

North Sewickley Police Chief Bryan Landman said the confidential informant, whom he would not name, provided critical information which led to arrests.

Police in Beaver County have so far charged four suspects. They are Shane D. Craft, 22, of 1798 Mudbridge Road; Travis M. Brown, 20, of 1098 Beaver Dam Road; and Richard Boggs, 23, of 1996 Houston Road, all in Little Beaver Township, Lawrence County; and Jason H. Ferguson, 30, of 1386 Lincoln Drive, Center Township.

All but Ferguson are being held in the Beaver County Jail. Ferguson was released after posting $5,000 bond.

In Beaver County 306 inmates were incarcerated in August, unchanged from the month before, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections.

Landin James Pillar, 20-year-olds, were the youngest inmates in Beaver County in August.

Dowl Horton was the oldest at 81-years-old.

Pennsylvania has an incarceration rate of 659 individuals per 100,000 inhabitants, which includes prisons, jails, immigration detention institutions, and juvenile justice facilities.

According to a 2022 study, Pennsylvania has maintained an approximately 64% three-year total recidivism rate for the past 16 years.
